FAQ

Accessory questions

Do I need a special hard drive for a DVR or NVR?

Yes — standard desktop hard drives aren't rated for the continuous 24/7 write cycles a DVR or NVR performs. Surveillance-rated drives are built for that duty cycle and last significantly longer in recorder use.

When should I use a video balun instead of running coax directly?

Baluns let you run HD-over-coax camera signal on Cat5e/6 cable instead of RG59, which is useful for longer distances or when Cat5e is already pulled. Active baluns add signal boost for runs beyond passive balun limits.
